Sakaja names a 13-member team to review Nairobi’s betting and gaming rules.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has appointed a 13-member taskforce to review how the county's new gambling law is working.
The team was set up through Gazette Notice No. 14177 of 4 September. It is looking at the Nairobi City County Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2026, and how it is being put into practice.
County chief of staff David Njoroge chairs it. Dr Anastasia Nyalita, the County Executive Committee Member for Business and Hustler Opportunities, is co-chair, and Alvin Omuga Mayoya of the Directorate of Betting, Lotteries and Gaming heads the secretariat.
Its brief covers licensing, compliance, fees and oversight. It has also been asked to look at how operators move onto the new licences, what the industry contributes to the city's economy, safeguards for problem gambling, and whether county rules line up with the national ones.
The taskforce has 21 days from the date of gazettement to hand its recommendations to the governor.
