Strathmore chase fifth straight Embu Sevens title.
Strathmore RFC are chasing a fifth consecutive Embu Sevens title as the tournament kicks off at Embu Stadium on 5 and 6 September. The club has won every edition since 2022, beating Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks and KCB in recent finals.
The tournament comes at a tricky point in Strathmore's season. They currently sit eighth in the Kenya Cup standings with 41 points, well behind leaders KCB on 76 and Kabras Sugar on 73, and finished 14th at the recent Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa. Captain Gabriel Ayimba said the team has had "setbacks in the Driftwood Series" but insists Embu remains their tournament to win. "Embu has always been ours to win. We have dominated in recent years," he said, adding that two more strong results could put Strathmore back in podium contention for the season.
The draw
Strathmore have been drawn in Pool C alongside Kabras Sugar, Nondescripts and Nakuru RFC. KCB lead Pool A with Mombasa RFC, KU Blak Blad and Kisumu RFC, while Menengai Oilers headline Pool B. Tournament director Wilkister Miranga said organisers are "all set for Embu Sevens and looking forward to hosting another exciting leg," with sponsor Tusker contributing Sh1.5 million to logistics.
