Power cut in Laini Saba and parts of Kibera on Friday, 9am to 5pm. The areas affected and what to do.
Kenya Power says it will switch off electricity in Laini Saba, parts of Kibera and nearby areas on Friday, 2 October, from 9am to 5pm, to carry out maintenance on the network.
The cut is listed in the company's planned maintenance notice for 27 September to 2 October, under the area it calls "Madaraka, Ngumo".
Areas affected on Friday
Laini Saba, National Housing Kibera, Silanga, Undugu and Magorofani.
Madaraka, Geomap, Wasafiri and Ngumo.
Kenyatta National Hospital and Mbagathi Way.
Other customers connected to the same lines.
Also in Nairobi on Friday, at the same hours: part of James Gichuru Road, and Manyani West and Waiyaki Way.
Today, Thursday
A separate cut is running today, Thursday 1 October, from 9am to 5pm in the area Kenya Power calls "Kenyatta, Ngumo". It covers KMTC, Daystar, part of Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenyatta Estate and Kenyatta Market, Highview Phase 1 and 2, Magiwa Estate, Ngumo Central, Mbagathi Hospital, Mbagathi Girls, Highrise, Canaan, Akiba 2 and KEMRI.
What it means for you
Charge phones, lamps and power banks on Thursday night.
If you run a barbershop, salon, welding, printing or M-Pesa business, plan Friday around the cut.
Keep fridges closed as much as you can so food stays cold for longer.
Switch off and unplug appliances during the cut, so a surge does not damage them when power comes back.
Planned cuts sometimes end earlier or later than the time given. To report a problem, dial *977# or call Kenya Power on 97771.
