A developer plans three 18-storey blocks with 601 flats on Kabarnet Road, off Ngong Road. It would be one of the biggest housing projects on Kibra’s edge.
A developer is planning three 18-storey residential blocks with a total of 601 apartments along Kabarnet Road, off Ngong Road, in one of the largest housing projects proposed in the Kibra area.
Project details published by Nanchong Longines Bay Limited show the development will also include parking, shops, a swimming pool, a gym and a restaurant.
It is one of several high-rise projects that have gone through public notices in recent weeks across Nairobi. Others include a 23-storey block with 616 apartments on Githunguri Road in Kileleshwa, a 21-storey block of 212 apartments on Gichugu Road, a 19-storey building of 152 apartments in Westlands, a 16-storey mixed-use block of 550 units on Dennis Pritt Road in Kilimani, and a 12-storey block of 144 units in the Mugumoini area of Lang'ata.
What it means for the area
Kabarnet Road sits between Ngong Road and the edge of Kibera, close to Woodley and Jamhuri. Tall apartment blocks have been spreading along Ngong Road for several years, pushing up land prices and rents in neighbouring estates.
Projects of this size must go through an environmental impact assessment, where members of the public can give their views before the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) decides whether to issue a licence. Residents who want to comment should look out for the NEMA notice for the project.
No start date for construction has been announced.
