Kriss Darlin: the Kibra reggae DJ who built Dohty Family.
Kibera Creatives is a KNN series on the artists, designers and performers who built their names from Kibera. Profiles are compiled from published reports and the subjects' own public pages; sources are listed at the end. Spotted an error? Write to news@kibranewsnetwork.co.ke.
Kriss Darlin is a reggae DJ and MC who was born and raised in Kibra. He is the founder and head DJ of Dohty Family Entertainment, and he became a household name on NTV's Saturday reggae show, Jamrock.
At its height the Dohty Family crew was playing somewhere in Nairobi every night: Tamasha, K1 Klub House, Club Rumours and Florida 2000. He has played for Kenyan crowds abroad too, in Paris, in Las Vegas during the rugby sevens, and in Dubai.
Back home
He runs the Kriss Darlin Super Cup, a football tournament for Kibera youth, and says his charity work, including donations of sanitary towels to Kibra schools, is all based in the constituency. In November 2018 he scored for a Kenyan legends side in a Betika exhibition match attended by Ronaldinho.
The by-election
In August 2019, after the death of MP Ken Okoth, he sought the ODM ticket for the Kibra by-election. He lost the party primaries to Imran Okoth, and NTV ended his contract in September 2019 under Nation Media Group's policy on staff in politics. "The people of Kibra have the final say," he told The Star at the time.
Still on the road
Dohty Family is still playing. On 15 September 2026 the music outlet earGROUND reported the crew's first show in Zimbabwe, at Mxtra Club in Harare, with Kriss Darlin, MC Munga and DJ Cessy on the line-up. In October 2026 the crew's Instagram page was advertising weekly Dohty Fridays after-work nights in Nairobi with Kriss Darlin as the headline DJ.
