New poll puts Raila Junior ahead in Kibra, with a third of voters undecided.
A new opinion poll puts Raila Odinga Junior ahead in the race for Kibra MP, but more than a third of the people asked had not made up their minds.
The numbers from the Bobea Report, whose fieldwork ran from 26 August to 2 September: Raila Junior 21.7%, McDonald Mariga 15.3%, Imran Okoth 11.2%, sitting MP Peter "Mwalimu" Orero 9.0%, Timon Odhiambo 6.3%. Undecided: 36.5%.
The undecided share is bigger than the top two candidates put together. The leader has the support of about one in five respondents.
Treat it with care
This is Bobea Report's first poll. It describes itself as a new independent research and polling firm, and it has not published a website, its funders or the size of the Kibra sample. The margin of error it gives, plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, applies to the national sample. A sample for a single constituency is much smaller and its error much larger.
Nationally the same poll put President Ruto at 35.2%, Edwin Sifuna at 19.1% and Fred Matiang'i at 14.0%, with 17.7% undecided.
In Dagoretti South, the other Nairobi race the pollster highlighted, Dennis Waweru had 28%, sitting MP John Kiarie 25.7% and Brian Muchene 12.5%, with 33.8% undecided.
Background
Raila Junior has been holding meetings in Kibra since July and was presented to Kibra voters by his mother, Ida Odinga, at the start of this month (KNN report). Mariga contested the 2019 Kibra by-election for Jubilee and lost to Imran Okoth, who held the seat until 2022, when Orero won it for ODM.
