Kibera Black Stars: the NSL survivors who have never played at home in Kibra.
Kibera Black Stars are Kibra's longest-serving club in the National Super League, Kenya's second tier. They have been there since at least the 2018/19 season, and have finished between fifth and fourteenth in every season on record.
One thing the record does not show is a home ground in Kibra. FKF's league platform lists the club's home as Vapor Grounds in Kawangware. Over the last few seasons Black Stars have also played home matches at Hope Centre in Kawangware, Gems Cambridge College, Ligi Ndogo and Jamhuri Sports Ground. Woodley Stadium, Kibra's only stadium, has been closed for renovation since 2020.
Season by season
FKF Leagues carries the club's results from 2021/22: 8th with 49 points that season; 14th with 32 points in 2022/23; 9th with 52 points in 2023/24; a best-ever 5th with 61 points in 2024/25; and 9th with 53 points in 2025/26.
The club's founding date and its route up through Division One are not recorded in any source KNN could find. If the club has that history, we will print it.
Coaches
Godfrey "Solo" Oduor quit as coach in early 2019, telling the Standard that fans had threatened him and his players. Moses Onyango was in charge in mid-2023, followed by Noah Abich, whose half-time talk during a match against Dimba Patriots went viral in November 2023 when the club was bottom of the table. Idd Badi has been head coach since at least February 2026, with former Harambee Stars midfielder Tom Juma as his assistant. Kevin Adongo is the team manager.
Players who moved on
Midfielder Brian Mzee left Black Stars for Nairobi City Stars and then, in February 2024, for Leopard Cat FC in Taiwan. Winger Andre Kalama joined Sofapaka from Black Stars in 2023 after training with Rangers in Scotland. Jesse Were, who went on to score more than 100 goals for Zesco United in Zambia, and Nicholas Omondi, a former Kenya under-20 captain, both started out at Black Stars, according to Capital FM and Pulse Sports.
The low point
On 1 June 2025 a home match against APS Bomet at Jamhuri Sports Ground was abandoned in the 79th minute after fans and officials attacked assistant referee Eunice Njeri over a disputed goal. No police were present. FKF awarded Bomet a 2-0 win.
The club's local rivals are Darajani Gogo, the other Kibra side in the NSL until their relegation in June. The two met twice last season, each winning 1-0 away from home.
