From tenth to third: inside Kibera Soccer Women’s best-ever league season.
Kibera Soccer Women finished third in the 2025/26 Women's Premier League with 34 points from 20 games: ten wins, four draws, six defeats, 28 goals scored and 23 conceded. They finished level on points with Trinity Starlets and ahead on goal difference. Kenya Police Bullets won the title with 52 points; Ulinzi Starlets had 47.
The slow start
The season began with a 0-0 draw against Ulinzi at Marist University grounds on 4 October 2025, a 1-3 defeat at Vihiga, a 0-0 with Trinity and a 0-2 loss at Soccer Assassins. Two points from four games left the club tenth and in the relegation zone. The first win came at Kayole Starlets on 16 November, 2-1, with goals from Anna Arusi and Faith Mboya.
The result of the season
On Wednesday 17 December, at Marist, Kibera beat Police Bullets 4-2 after going behind. Linda Owino scored for Police in the 12th minute; Arusi equalised in the 38th and put Kibera ahead in the 62nd; Puren Alukwe levelled in the 75th; Grace Wekesa in the 83rd and Mboya in stoppage time won it. Kibera were without Lucy Kisaga, Maximilla Robi, Cynthia Atieno and Monica Nakamu, and Esse Akida was awaiting clearance. Police lost only two league games all season.
Unbeaten at home
Kibera did not lose a home game: eight wins and three draws, including 2-0 over Zetech Sparks, 2-1 over Kayole and over Soccer Assassins, 1-0 over Gideon Starlets with Akida's goal at Gems Cambridge, and a 4-3 win over Bungoma Queens with two from Arusi. Away they won two, drew one and lost six. The season ended with a 3-0 win at Zetech on 10 May.
Anna Arusi was the club's top scorer with seven league goals, joint fourth in the league. The league's top scorer was Police's Margaret Kunihira with 14.
Off the pitch
After a 0-0 draw at Trinity in Gilgil on 31 January, the club and captain Akida issued a statement calling the surface "unsafe and uneven, with bare patches and poor drainage". "Players give everything on the pitch – their hearts, their health and their careers," Akida said.
Two clubs, KISPED Queens and Kisumu All Starlets, dropped out mid-season, so Kibera played 20 games rather than 22.
