Kibra United: the club Kibera’s retired pros founded in 2012, now mourning ‘Coach Kip’.
Kibra United was "established in 2012 by some of the now-retired professional footballers from Kibra", the club says on its website. It plays in FKF Division One, the third tier, and says its former players have gone on to Premier League clubs and to national teams in Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia and Tanzania.
Coach Kip
On 5 August 2026 the club announced the death of former coach Benjamin Kipruto, known as Coach Kip. "It is with great shock and sadness," the statement began. The cause of death was not given. Tuko reported that he is survived by his wife Quinter and two daughters. Pulse Sports has separately reported that Harambee Stars defender Eric "Marcelo" Ouma played barefoot as a boy for Future FC in Kibera under a coach named Benjamin Kipruto.
The 2024/25 season
Kibra United stayed up on the final day, beating Bumbani Stars 1-0 at Nairobi West Prisons Ground on 18 May 2025 with a 66th-minute goal from Allan "Van Dijk" Chakaya. They finished 13th with 30 points, two clear of relegation. The club described a season "plagued by financial instability", with players leaving mid-season over unpaid wages.
Other results that season: a 2-1 derby win over Kibera Soccer on 29 March 2025, with Brian Mwania scoring; 2-0 wins over Congo Boys and Dandora Youth; and draws with Strathmore and Kenya Navy. Home games were at Gems Cambridge.
Money
The club held a fundraising dinner on 8 August 2025 at Palm Hall, Prestige Plaza on Ngong Road, at Sh3,500 a plate, with a target of Sh6 million for operations, kit, travel and league fees. Its jersey sponsor is Eclectics International.
History
In June 2017 the club won the 15th Ramadhani Cup at Woodley grounds, beating Ismail FC 5-4. In November 2025 it reached the quarter-finals of BingwaFest Nairobi, losing on penalties to Kangemi Allstars after a 0-0 draw.
The club's 2025/26 league position has not been published. This week Michezo Afrika listed Kenya under-20 midfielder Abdirizak Nurie as a Kibra United player; other squad lists put him at Berlin FC. KNN has not confirmed which is right.
