Darajani Gogo: from Kibera ‘gang youth’ to the NSL, and now back down to Division One.
Darajani Gogo were relegated from the National Super League in June after finishing 16th of 20 with 39 points: ten wins, nine draws and 19 defeats, 27 goals scored and 47 conceded. They were level on points with Kabati Youth and Kisumu All Stars. The relegation is "subject to several cases" in the courts, The Star reported.
Where they came from
The club's patron, Ahmed Kalebi, told Pulse Sports in 2023 that it was "formed as Gogo Boys from among gang youth members in 2014" in the Darajani area of Kibera, and had played league football since 2015, "starting from the Sub-County League through County, Regional, Div 2, and Div 1" before its NSL debut in 2022/23. In 2020, as a Division Two side, Gogo Boys got a kit deal and a three-month wages pledge from Pathologists Lancet Kenya.
The good year
In 2024/25 Gogo finished in the top four with 64 points and 56 goals, according to FKF Leagues, and went into the final round in the hunt for a promotion play-off place.
The derbies
Gogo beat Kibera Black Stars 1-0 in a "Kibera derby" at Ligi Ndogo on 17 June 2023, Ronald Okello scoring. Last season the two shared the spoils: Gogo won 1-0 at Black Stars on 23 November, and Black Stars won 1-0 at Gogo on 7 March. Both clubs list Vapor Grounds in Kawangware as home.
In March, coach Kelly Ogutu, who had signed 11 players mid-season, admitted: "Qualifying for the SportPesa League is not within our reach now."
Other Kibera clubs
Below the NSL and Division One, Kibera clubs appear in dated news only occasionally. Mashimoni All Stars won the Sh1 million 82 Ultimate Cup on penalties against Dandora Youth in December 2023. A Mosquito FC hosted Mathare United at Laini Saba grounds in March 2026. Kibra TVC and Fort FC received kit from the Raymond Omollo Foundation in July 2025. Kibera Saints, in Division Two, produced Tusker's Chris Erambo. Kibera Celtic, a name that circulates online, has no record on FKF's league platform; the 2017 "Celtic" stories were about a kit donation from the Celtic FC Foundation to 50 Kibera teams.
