Raila Educational Centre, the secondary school in Kibra built with constituency funds, won the 2026 Nairobi Region girls’ football title in July, beating Soweto Academy 2-0 at the Term Two regional games at Jamhuri Senior School (8–11 July). Weeks earlier the same Soweto Academy had beaten REC on penalties in the Nairobi West sub-region final after a 2-2 draw. REC also won the Nairobi West netball title, 49-37 against State House Girls.

The regional title took REC to the national school games in Thika in August. St Joseph’s Girls Kitale won the girls’ football title there, beating Nyakach Girls on penalties. REC’s results at the nationals have not been published.

Lindey Weey

The squad lists for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup put midfielder Lindey Weey Atieno at Raila Educational Centre (KNN report). In April the Nation described her as a 16-year-old Grade 10 student at Madira Girls, playing for Soccer Assassins in the Women’s Premier League. KNN has not been able to confirm when she moved.

Her qualifying campaign

Weey scored in the opening minutes of Kenya’s 2-1 win over Namibia at UNAM Stadium, Windhoek, on 12 April, the first leg of the first round; Kenya won the tie 7-1 on aggregate after the return at Ulinzi Sports Complex on 18 April. Against Uganda she missed the home leg through injury as Kenya went through on away goals after a 1-1 draw in Kampala and a 0-0 at Nyayo. In the final round Kenya beat South Africa 2-0 in Pretoria, where The Star credited her with assists, and 3-1 at Nyayo on 12 July, to qualify 5-1 on aggregate for a second World Cup in a row.

She was also in the Junior Starlets squad that won 2-0 in Kampala in March 2025, in a campaign that ended against Cameroon. Coach Mildred Cheche said of the Namibia game that it was “the first time for most of them to play an international match”.

President Ruto handed over eight new classrooms at REC on 28 April 2026, according to Tuko.
