Police arrest a man in Karanja, Kibra, and recover phones believed to be stolen. Some owners have already identified theirs.
Police have arrested a man in the Karanja area of Kibra and recovered several mobile phones believed to be stolen, the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement on Sunday 11 October.
Officers under the Kilimani Sub-County command made the arrest on Saturday 10 October during an operation against crime in the area, according to the statement, which was reported by People Daily. The NPS linked the man to a series of crimes reported in the Nairobi West sub-region.
He was taken to Kibra Police Station, where he is being held before he is taken to court. The NPS said some of the phones have already been identified by their owners.
What has not been said
How many phones were recovered. The statement says only "several".
The man's name, the charges he will face and the date he will appear in court.
Which reported thefts the phones are linked to.
An arrest is not a conviction. The man is a suspect until a court decides otherwise.
If your phone was stolen in Kibra
Report it at the nearest police station if you have not done so, and keep the OB number you are given.
Go to Kibra Police Station and ask whether your phone is among those recovered. Carry your ID and proof that the phone is yours.
The best proof is the IMEI number. It is printed on the box and on most receipts. On a phone you still have, dialling *#06# shows it, so write down the numbers for your family's phones today.
Ask your mobile provider to block the stolen SIM and replace it, and change your mobile money PIN.
To report a crime, call 999, 911 or 112. To give information without giving your name, call the DCI on 0800 722 203.
