Kenya dominated the Wanda Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday as Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Faith Cherotich both broke meeting records to win their events. Wanyonyi took the men’s 800m in 1:41.80, a front-running display that earned him a fourth consecutive Diamond League title, following wins in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The 22-year-old world and Olympic champion led from the gun and pulled clear in the final 200m, finishing well ahead of Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati (1:42.71) and France’s Yanis Meziane (1:42.87), with former world champion Marco Arop fourth. Kenya’s Phanuel Koech also had a strong night, finishing second in the men’s 1500m in 3:30.18.

In the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, world champion Faith Cherotich timed 8:51.61 to beat Bahrain’s Olympic champion Winfred Yavi, with fellow Kenyan Doris Lemngole taking second in 8:52.86 for a Kenyan one-two. Yavi struggled with her technique at the final water jump, an opening Cherotich used to pull away before Lemngole overtook her in the closing stages.

Prize money

Each winner earned $30,000, about Sh3.8 million, plus the Diamond League Trophy. It was Cherotich’s second straight Diamond League title in the event.
