Ex-Sports PS Kaberia and nine others to face charges over Sh330m CHAN funds.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against former Sports Principal Secretary Peter Kirimi Kaberia and nine other people over Sh330 million meant for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Kenya had been preparing to host in 2018.
The decision follows an investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. The DPP said there are sufficient grounds to prosecute the suspects and the companies involved.
Who is on the list
Alongside Kaberia are four other officials: senior principal finance officer Stephen Njoroge Muthuma, director of administration Harun Chebet Komen, principal accountant Enock Ondwari Onditi and senior superintendent engineer John Kiende Ruga.
Five businessmen are also named: Marcos Gonzalez Puente of Auditel Kenya, Samuel Mbaa Njoroge of Taxwise Consulting, Kitheka Muema of Restea Enterprises, Anthony Mwangi Kimanthi of Lease Pride and Ephrahim Kinyua Muchangi of Leasepath. Six companies face charges too: Auditel Kenya, Taxwise Consulting, Restea Enterprises, Lease Pride, Leasepath and Liroma Assurance.
The counts include abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, failing to follow procurement law and dealing in proceeds of crime.
None of those named has been convicted. They are expected to take plea in court.
