IPOA has CCTV and vehicle records in the abduction of Standard editor Alex Kiprotich.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority says it has collected CCTV footage, dashboard camera recordings and motor vehicle records tied to a vehicle of interest in the abduction of Standard Group editor Alex Kiprotich.
Kiprotich was intercepted by armed men on the Nakuru – Gilgil highway on 1 September. He was found near Masinga Dam hours later, alive.
IPOA vice-chairperson Ann Wanjiku Mwangi said the investigation has not yet established whether any police officer was involved, and that investigators are still working to identify anyone who was.
The authority says it is processing the scenes, recording statements from Kiprotich and witnesses, and working with Standard Group, the Kenya National Highways Authority and the National Transport and Safety Authority.
The case has drawn attention beyond Kenya. The Committee to Protect Journalists has raised it, noting that Kiprotich had escaped an earlier attack before he was seized.
