Guide: the Kibera Soweto East Zone B houses — what is being built, who gets priority and how to register.
Residents keep asking KNN how to get one of the new houses going up in Soweto East. Here is what the official sources say.
What is being built
Boma Yangu, the government's housing portal, lists the project as ongoing, built by Intex Construction Ltd, with 4,054 social housing units: 1,740 one-room, 1,690 two-room and 624 three-room. It says Kibera residents are prioritised.
At the President's visit on 28 April 2026, the project was reported as more than 80% complete, costing Sh7.4 billion, with a school, a health centre and two boreholes. That coverage gave a different total, 4,465 units. (Why the numbers differ)
Who gets priority
In May 2025 more than 11,000 people in Zones C and D were registered and promised "Makao Bora" cards. In April 2026 Housing PS Charles Hinga said residents moved out of those zones would be prioritised for the new units.
How to register
Create an account on the Boma Yangu portal,. Keep your enumeration or Makao Bora card safe if you have one.
What is still not known
The rent, the purchase price and the allocation rules for Zone B have not been published. When they are, KNN will add them here. No one needs to pay an agent to "secure" a house. Report anyone who asks on +254 721 319 377.
