The Linda Mwananchi movement has named Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its leader and its candidate for president in 2027.
The decision was made at a retreat on Saturday, 26 September, and announced the next day. "Today, we met as the leadership of Linda Mwananchi and resolved to move forward together. H.E Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate," the movement said.

Citizen Digital lists Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Kakamega Senator Boniface Khalwale among those at the retreat. Siaya Senator James Orengo was not among them, according to the Nation and People Daily.

Babu Owino is backed to run for Nairobi governor on his Mwananchi Party ticket.
Meru's Kawira Mwangaza was cleared to run through the Umoja na Maendeleo Party.

Sifuna is due to unveil his party in early October. The Star reported on 21 September that it will be the Ukombozi Party, a rebrand of the United Democratic Party once associated with the late Cyrus Jirongo, with a launch planned for 1 October in Nairobi.
Linda Mwananchi is a movement, not a registered party. Its leaders dismissed talk of a split after Babu Owino registered his own party, saying they are united on purpose.
