Fake: there is no KNEC notice hiring 230,000 people for the national exams. How exam staff are really picked.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) says a notice being shared online, which claims it is hiring 230,000 people for this year's national exams, is fake.
The notice lists jobs for invigilators, supervisors, examiners, assessors, security officers, logistics officers and support staff for the KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE exams across the country.
"Beware of fake news, misleading information and fraudulent advertisements. Do not fall prey to fraudsters," KNEC said on Monday, 28 September. The notice did not come from the council, and the public should ignore it.
How exam staff are really chosen
Teachers are nominated by Sub-County Directors of Education. Nobody applies as an individual.
The Teachers Service Commission and KNEC then deploy them, using KNEC's CP2 online system, which posts teachers away from the schools they normally work in.
Curriculum support officers have been collecting teachers' details from head teachers since 4 September. Nominations close at the end of September.
The exam dates
KCSE: 19 October to 20 November.
KPSEA: 26 to 28 October.
KJSEA and KILEA: 26 to 30 October.
KPLEA: 26 to 29 October.

What it means for you
Do not pay anyone for an exam job, and do not send your ID or certificates to numbers or links in such notices.
Use only KNEC's official website and verified social media pages.
For genuine openings, the Public Service Commission is hiring for 851 posts until 13 October, and KNN's jobs page lists checked vacancies.
