Mukhisa Kituyi leaves the United Opposition for Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi.
Former trade minister Mukhisa Kituyi has joined Linda Mwananchi, the movement led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, in the latest shuffle on the opposition side.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at Sifuna's office in Nairobi. "Hon Kituyi will be a great addition to the Linda Mwananchi team," Sifuna said.
Kituyi was named spokesperson of the United Opposition only last month, and had been pushing its leaders to speak with one voice. He has said before that no serious talk of a united opposition can leave Sifuna's movement out.
He also headed the UN Conference on Trade and Development for eight years. He has ruled out running for president himself in 2027.
Linda Mwananchi is building a grassroots base ahead of that election, and Sifuna has said it will not split the opposition vote. A dispute over the party name it intends to use is still before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
