ODM has set aside the whole of October as Mwezi wa Baba, a month of events marking one year since former Prime Minister Raila Odinga died on October 15, 2025.

The party said the month recognises his “tireless contribution to our country’s democracy and his Pan-Africanism”. Raila represented Lang’ata, which then included Kibra, in Parliament from 1992 to 2013.

The programme

  • October 2: candle-lighting across the country at 6pm
  • October 9: memorial rally in Kakamega town
  • October 10 to 15: family-led events, ending with the main memorial service at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo
  • October 17: memorial rally in Garissa town
  • October 18 and 19: events at the Coast
  • October 20: Mashujaa Day
  • October 21: events in Kajiado County
  • October 23 to 25: events in Turkana County
  • October 31: closing rally in Nairobi County

The party has not yet named a venue for the Nairobi rally.
