Ruto in Migori: Sh28 billion in projects, a sugar bonus ‘next month’, and a swipe at rivals.
President William Ruto spent Wednesday in Migori County, at Uriri and Awendo, on the fourth day of a tour of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homa Bay built around projects worth more than Sh220 billion.
The promises
Sh28 billion for Migori, including 8,000 affordable housing units and 19 markets. Sh2.2 billion for the Kanyawanga – Kwoyo – Madiaba road. A national road budget of Sh19 billion this year against under Sh2 billion in 2022. 82,000 homes connected to electricity in three years, with Sh2.3 billion more for 21,000 homes.
To cane farmers at Sony Sugar, who petitioned in February over Sh185 million in arrears: "I will come back here next month to pay sugar farmers to also get a bonus in the county." He gave no figure.
The politics
"The people of Kenya will judge us by what we have done," Ruto said, calling 2027 a referendum on delivery. Of his opponents: "Policies? They have none. Plans? They have none. Agenda? They have none. Vision? They have none." He said they "have been hired by a sponsor".
He was accompanied by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch and Woman Representative Fatuma Mohammed. The tour ends in Homa Bay on Thursday.
KNN reported his housing exchange with Senator Edwin Sifuna, made from Kisumu earlier in the tour, on Wednesday.
